Making Meaningful Video Work with Elementary Students
My first video projects with children were done with a room full of eMacs and 3 or 4 Sanyo Xacti handheld video cameras. Sharing cameras, long rendering times and lost projects made me want to tear out what little hair I had. But even though I was frustrated with missed deadlines and technical hurdles, my 5th grade students were not. In fact they were giving up lunch-recess and staying after school to work on their projects.  So how do we create video projects that connect our students with their school community? I’d like to share some ways I’ve done that, and explore other possible project ideas. Everything from documenting a personal place, teacher, or event, to creating a p.s.a video to help younger students with anything from how shoot a basketball to how to survive homework in 5th grade.
